This lecture looks into the role of architectural schools — from Vkhutemas and Bauhaus to the leading modern architectural centers — in preparing professionals and developing new ideas.
Architectural schools played a significant role in the distribution and transformation of architectural ideas and practices in the 20th century. They were significant not only because they shaped a generation of architects, but also because they served as a platform for fruitful communication among the mature masters who taught there.
This lecture will discuss the programs and teaching methods of leading architectural schools such as Vhutemas-Vhutein, the postgraduate school of the Academy of Architecture, the Bauhaus, Rome Architecture School, the Polytechnic Institutes of Milan and Turin, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Architectural School of Harvard University, and the Architectural Association in London.
