DESCRIPTION

Rashid Johnson works with a variety of materials, from shea butter to ceramic tiles. In this workshop, the artist will unveil to our pint-sized visitors the secret techniques used in creating his wax paintings.

As part of Moscow Museum Night, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art invites visitors and their children to take a closer look at the artist’s creative process, which usually takes place in a workshop and often eludes the viewer’s eye.

Rashid Johnson recalls that when he was young, he lacked the opportunity and means to learn more about art and artistic life from painters, so in 2015 he invited a group of teenagers to visit his studio in Brooklyn, where he shared his artistic experience and mastery.

Here in Moscow the artist will be working with children for the first time. For this special occasion, he is traveling to Moscow with his four-year-old son, who is also going to take part in the workshop.

Children ages 5 to 9, accompanied by parents/guardians, are welcome to participate.

We also invite deaf and hard of hearing children to attend the workshop, where there will be teachers trained in Russian Sign Language. We kindly ask you to register for this event by sending an email with the subject line “Rashid Johnson” to openmuseum@garagemca.org.
