Garage’s Open Systems Project to Continue in Samara

Date

8 DEC 2016

Garage Museum of Contemporary Art reaches out to new exhibition spaces in the regions to bring contemporary art to viewers across the country.

Victoria Gallery (Samara) will be hosting the fifth iteration of Open Systems—a research project initiated by Garage, exploring self-organized initiatives in Russian art through the perspectives of artists who have pioneered new forms of cooperation in the art world, autonomous from institutions and commercial structures.

The archive section, containing materials on sixty-nine self-organized initiatives from fifteen Russian cities, will be shown together with Self-Insufficiency, an exhibition curated by Samara-based artist Anastasia Albokrinova, which will offer a local focus and allow for a better understanding of the Samara art scene.

The exhibition will feature new works by artists who have been active in Samara’s self-organized communities and spaces—XI Rooms Gallery, Gallery for One Viewer and Ice Project. They include Alexandr Verevkin, Andrey Syaylev, Konstantin Zatsepin, Oleg Yelagin, Sergey Balandin and Anna Korzhova—presented not as a selection of individual artists, but as participants of the same project.

Through their friend groups and their creative collaborations, they create new connections between people, and keep the city’s art scene alive and changing.

The exhibition will be on until January 20, 2017.
